Fighters fight for glory, but who loses when the Octagon turns red? – UFC Special
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has been in the limelight for years as the premier mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion company operating in North America. Since November 1993, the year of UFC’s establishment, it became
a worldwide sensation, specially attracting viewers and spectators with the knack of MMA. What UFC does give to the fans are brutal fights, which take place inside the octagon fight ring. The demonic caged structure has been the place where fighter’s teeth
have been knocked out, faces disfigured and champions crowned only after beating each other to the edge of their lives.
In the state of New York and Connecticut, MMA fights are termed illegal. Such MMA fights are not allowed to use these states as a venue nor are they telecasted on television neither in these states nor in their respective cities.
Lorenzo Fertitta, who serves as the co-owner of the UFC took an active step this year to revive MMA and UFC fights in these two states. He presented a written document in an attempt to make these fights legal.
The rationale the legislators used in 1997 to ban MMA fights in New York was the unconstitutional aspect which the MMA fights are based on. Fighters use sheer brutality and cruel physical assault to win the fights. They can be
termed unconstitutional, but the fighters step in the ring, which is their own decision. They are not forced to become barbaric neither are they compelled to make others bleed.
Even if the choice to become a MMA fighter is entirely the fighter’s consent and to disfigure their face is what they are paid to do. At the recently held UFC 139, the UFC fans were given a treat they would remember for ages. On
Saturday, November 19, 2011, when San Jose, California welcomed UFC 139, it featured some of the most downright brutal matches in the history of the UFC.
Dan Hendo Henderson and Mauricio Shogun Rua's epic battle was something no one in the MMA division had expected to see. The fighters went on hitting each other for five rounds, a feat never seen before, as UFC never saw any non-title
bout enter into the fifth round. Once the fight was over, Dan Henderson was the winner but with a cost. His white shorts were stained with red blood. Some parts of the octagon ring were painted with the same colour.
The other fight of the night that made spectators jump with enthusiasm was when Wanderlei Silva faced Cung Le. The last two minutes of the fight were what made it an epic classic only for Silva and the fans, because those one-hundred
and twenty seconds were nothing short of a painful experience for Le. Sliva blasted his way through Le’s defences as with multiple thunderous left and right punches that broke Le’s nose in an instant. Both fighters were equally battered by each other’s merciless
punches but when Silva went away with the win, it was Le who had to call in the paramedics.
One must wonder if these fighters enjoy being bruised and wounded beyond their physical limits, but then again, it is the fighters themselves who choose to become fighting machines with the intention of inflicting pain on their
opponents. The spectators and viewers go away once the fights end, but it is the fighters who have to bear the pain of defeat or the agony of a physical assault.
