The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), known for the brutality and straight out barbaric strikes these fighters attack their opponents with. They are ruthless the moment they hear the bell. Feet, knees, elbows and fists fly
in all direction as the fighters’ power their way through their opponent’s defences.
Most of the time, these fights end only when a doctor intervenes when the fighter goes down and cannot get up because of a hard knock or an excessive loss of blood. Normally, in a fight the mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters get
wounds and bruises on their face and skull. Sometimes these cuts are deep which need stitches. Broken fingers and fractured skulls are a normal occurrence. On Saturday, November 19, 2011, the UFC 139 event was held in Las Vegas. The night featured some of
the most amazing and action packed matches ever witnessed in the octagonal fighting ring in an UFC arena.
All fighters were at the receiving end of hard knocks, knee strikes and knockout punches. Vietnamese MMA fighter Cung Le’s face was unrecognizable. His face, covered with blood and wounds was a painful sight to see. His nose was
shattered, yet he was the one who walked out of UFC 139 as the top paid fighter. Although Le was on the losing end by a devastating beating by Wanderlei Silva, yet Le earned $350,000 for the night. Silva, the winning fighter got $200,000.
In the main bouts of the night, Stephan Bonnar got $68,000, which includes a bonus of $34,000 and his opponent Kyle Kingsbury got $10,000. Martin Kampmann earned $58,000 and his opponent Rick Story got $19,000. Urijah Faber was
given a salary of $64,000 and his opponent Brian Bowles was given $19,000. One of the most memorable matches of the night and a historic one in UFC history was between Dan Henderson and Mauricio Rua. The winner of the bout, Henderson, was paid $250,000 while
Rua received $165,000.
In the preliminary bouts, Danny Castillo earned $35,600 along with a $17,000 bonus and his opponent got Shamar Bailey: $6,400. Seth Baczynski earned $16,000 with a bonus of $8,000. His opponent, Matt Brown got $12,000. Miguel Torres
bagged $60,800, which included a bonus of $30,000 while his opponent Nick Pace went home with $3,200. Gleison Tibau bagged $54,000 with a $27,000 bonus for his win and his opponent, Rafael Dos Anjos, received $16,000.
