I just got a new guinea pig. I have one ryt now that ive had for a few months already. They seemed to be getting along until i put them in the cage. Then they started fighting after a few minutes in there. Is this normal, or not. Is it because of the cage size? PLz help!

  1. If your cage is too small and you didn't introduce them properly, it is likely the cause http://www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm...

Are they actually full on fighting because they do need time to work out their dominance issues.

  2. Male cavys often fight; sometimes it's just a small squabble, but it can often lead to serious injuries; you have to use your judgment and separate them if the aggression is escalating. As far as I know, there's no remedy for it; even neutering them doesn't do the trick. A small cage size can aggravate territorial behavior, yes.

  3. make sure they aren't hurting eachother too bad. once their dominance is settled they should stop. or the cage might be too small. Try to supervise them at first. Get a spray bottle and squirt them if they start fighting really bad. After a day or two they should be friends...

  4. Make sure they are not two males because they will fight often. Try putting a barrier in the cage or get a different cage to temperarily put the new one in. Make sure they can see each other, but can't reach each other. Or maybe they are just never going to get along.

  5. sows (demale guineas) will usully fight. the reason is that they want to see which one is the dominent cavy. its quite normal with sows and boars.

id just say to watch them, if the fighting starts getting really bad seperate them. but this probably wont happen!

    guinea pigs are awesome!

good luck and i hope ur girls get toghether well!
