What is a good style o Martial Arts to study if you are tall, gangly, and lanky?

I have heard that Crane style Kung Fu is good? Does anyone know anything for a lanky guy like me?

If so, do you know any schools around Pittsburgh that teach it?

  1. try kickboxing dude.. your reach advantage will serve you well to stay up top.. if it happens to o ot the floor, learn brazliain jui jitsu.. tangle them up with your long limbs & get em into submisison.

  2. In traditional Chinese martial arts crane is very typically one of the first things that you will learn. It is kind of built around that particular build, but at the end of the day that doesn't mean that someone short can't do it. A person of any body build can use practically any fighting style or art. How much effort you put in means more than what style you train in.

Being tall and lanky though is ideal for most stand up fighting styles though. Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Kyo Koshin Karate, Shotokan just about any of the stand up fighting styles will be well served with your great height and reach. On the other hand being tall will make you easy for someone like a wrestler to get under to take down and crane won't help much there so you may want to consider supplementing that with some jiu jitsu to be more well rounded.

  3. Any.

Honestly, each body has advantages and disadvantages.

A striking art might suit you as you will have a reach advantage, but as far as grappling your limbs could be used to wrap your opponent more easily.

Work with what you have my friend.

    good luck!
