I have had Bulimia for 3 years and i am attempting to stop.

Today i spent hours contemplating binging and purging and trying to calm my urges.

I was in such a state of confusion that i was beginning to be afraid of what i was going to do.

I ended up binging and purging...

But i just wanted to ask if anyone could identify the feelings of fear associated with trying to fight the urge to binge/purge?

  1. Oh god yes!  I used to be bulimic.

You have got to take this seriously enough to get professional help, i.e. see a therapist.  This is a very complex and difficult problem to address and SO MUCH HARDER to try to work out on your own.  There are many many many different reasons this could be happening... a mix of societal/peer pressure, self esteem, depression.... any number of things.  It is imperative that you get some help through this.

Part of bulimia is the secrecy, so it may be hard to come forward about it.  I remember I used to be ashamed and eat crazy amounts of food when I was alone.

The good news is:  there is help out there, and you can get better.  You can get to a place where you dont think about food a lot, and eat healthy and are happy with yourself.

  2. Binging and purging is bad. You are just doing much harm to your own body. The first positive step in the right direction would be to seek professional help. I've had an eating disorder myself, that pic next to my name is me when I was just too skinny. I have recovered. The body needs fat to function properly, just not bad fats and processed junk. You must achieve an internal equilibrium mentally and physically.

  3. I have an eating disorder too but I don't make myself throw up.  I'm probably 360 lbs. now but just hate to go to the doctor and get weighed and hate going because they will force me to have blood pressure taken which is very painful for someone with a fat arm.  I told the doctor it is painful but he won't let me get it taken on my forearm.  He just repeated that's the way they do it.  This is unfair so anyway....

I do understand in a way---my older sister also had bulimia at least for awhile.  I wouldn't be able to do it because I am very careful not to waste food and this would be wasting food and money to throw it up.  Of course, in my case, it's wrecking my health anyway...so either way it's a big problem.

God can help us with anything.  We have to spend a lot of time in prayer and learn spiritual warfare and meditate on the word of God and obey the voice of the Lord.  This is true, but most people either don't believe or they are too lazy (a big part of my problem too) to really do this.  So, just to let you know, this does work.  You can start slow and pray for 10 min. a day on your knees twice, but then you need to believe in Jesus also.  Do you?  by the time you get to one hr. a day of prayer, you should be winning victories!  Pray for everything, not just the eating problem...getting to know Christ is the greatest thing or more helpful than anything.  God bless you.

  4. I am sorry for the pain you are going through. Most of the time, it is not the bulimia that is the problem but the symptom of the problem. Even if you were to stop your bulimia, you would probably find another destructive method to replace it. Before you fight Bulimia, you need to understand the reason(s) behind it. Though you might get great advice, I strongly recommend you seek professional help. The reasons people have bulimia is varied and your reason may be different from someone else. Before you can get rid of your bulimia, you need to know the reasons why you have bulimia. Sometimes, it takes a professional counselor to help you find out. This may be difficult to be done over the web by itself. Please ask someone to support you. Find someone with whom you trust and can talk to. Share how you feel. Then, together, find someone who is a trained counselor.

  5. Why are you obsessed with being so thin? Do you think that thinner people have been lives? I am a vegetarian, and this November is will be four years and counting. People tell me that I am too skinny, etc. People make comments if you are too skinny, or too chubby, etc. But the point here is you need to satisfy yourself, and make yourself happy and healthy. Eat healthy and exercise, Please don't do this to yourself any longer.
