The Portuguese legend and former Real Madrid player has reported that his compatriot has every chance to win the prestigious accolade following a memorable season.
Luis Figo, former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629, to lift the greatest individual honour in the game this season.
Figo is considered as a Portuguese legend and he has won the prestigious accolade on one previous occasion. The player grabbed the honour back in 2000 and has now voiced his opinions on the matter, as the award is to be given away shortly this season.
The midfielder had a more than beautiful career to his name and controversially had stints at both of the Spanish giants, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The Ballon d’Or award is approaching soon and is due to announced on the 7th of January 2012.
The football’s official body has already shortlisted the top three candidates for the award and the list includes Barcelona forward http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296, his team-mate Andres Iniesta and Real Madrid’s attacker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo and Messi are considered as the favourites to bag the award but Andres Iniesta is not too far behind either.
Cristiano’s goals led Real Madrid to their maiden La Liga title in 4 years and helped finally end http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604’s reign at the helm of La Liga.
Messi’s goals did not yield much fruit as Barcelona did not win a host of trophies like previous seasons.
Figo now believes that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734 is the worthy candidate for the award and  will like him to lift the coveted award.
"There's nothing to stop him [Ronaldo] from winning it," Figo was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo.”
"He is one of the favourites to win all the individual trophies there are, even more so this year, because I think he had a good season in the league and did well at the Euros.”
"There are a lot of people involved in the choice, so it is always difficult to know who will win."
Figo was interviewed on the matter by Mundo Deportivo and openly supported his country-mate to bag the honour.
