Ok, I'm not a great skater, but anyway Iv been skating for a year.

I went to the rink today, and yesterday and heaps of times before. Whenever I dont feel like i'v done something great at the session (public session, no lessons) , I feel really depressed.

Anyone had the same?

I need help so I can love this sport all the time, not just sometimes.

  1. Everyone has 'off' days, where there skating is just BAD! It does lower your confidence, but just think of how good you feel when you do well. I have been skating for 7 months now, and my skating has benifited by training on a regular basis. Even if you're not doing so well, you should still like it all the time if you REALLY love it. If you only like it sometimes, then maybe you should consider if skating is something you really wanna do.

    Hope i helped

  2. yes i have that all the time

    probably because im a perfectionist.

private lessons help a bunch to raise your confidence if you get a good coach

  3. i know how you feel :) when i started out i constantly felt unhappy that i couldn't do the spins and jumps other skaters had taken years to master he he.

at public sessions there are often too many people to practice constructively, and i usually find myself sticking to footwork and the odd spin. at the end i also feel i could have tried much harder, but i know there was a limit to what i could have done safely. besides a little practice is better than none at all. i tell myself to try harder at the next practice session i go to, and usually do :)

a good way to make yourself feel better (i find this works for me anyways) is to remind yourself how great it felt to learn or complete a new or troubling move perfectly, then go and do that move. re-live that feeling.

if you truly don't feel like you enjoy the sport any more then maybe think about whether its worth your while continuing.. there not much point spending time and money on something you don't enjoy...

good luck, i hope you feel better about your skating. remember quality not quantity, so take your time, and enjoy the process of getting things perfected :)
