I'm 14 and I'm starting Figure Skating 1 in January. I want to know If I will be able to compete. Or if I will have recitals. I think I'm a natural hence I seem to learn fast. What do you do in this level and what is it like

  1. do u mean freestyle 1 or basic 1? for usfsa, u'l be able to compete at all levels, as for recitals, look at ur local skating club.

  2. If you mean " freestyle 1 "  Then, yes. You will be able to compete in ISI. If you mean " Basic 1 "  Then , NO!

  3. freestlye 1-you will be able to compete

basic 1- keep dreaming, you wont be able ot compete for about 2 years

  4. It depends.  Is this a USFS program or ISI?  Level requirements differ depending on what association it is.

You'll have to ask your instructor about competitions (and will generally require a coach to put together a program with all the required elements in it).  With recitals, usually your club will have one once a year that you can sign up for, but it depends on your rink.  If you're not a high level skater (not doing double jumps yet), you'll probably have to do a group number, but those are probably more fun than solos since you have people to talk to at practice.

Remember, too, that just because you learn fast doesn't mean you should speed through levels.  Skating requires very good knowledge of basic skating skills before you can move on to harder elements.  I know this specifically because I moved ahead way too quickly and then had problems at higher levels because I hadn't mastered some of the basics.

    Good luck to you!
