Hi, I just got a new solo to the song, "Overture from Tommy" by "The Who". But I don't really like the song, how my coach edited it. How can I look like I'm enjoying my time, (in front of the judges) if I'm really not!?!?

What should I do??

  1. When I used to skate, I picked and edited all of my music because for me, if i dont connect with the music, i dont perform well.

So for next time, maybe you could ask her if you could chose and edit it yourself. It does not take complicated technology. All you need is one of those portable radio players/boom boxes that has a CD player and a tape player. There is a record button so when the CD is playing, you can press record and it will start recording onto the tape.

But for now, use lots of energy and try to look like you are one with the music. Feel the beats, feel the rythms. If you have any musical experience at all you know that in order for an orchestra or band to do well, all sections need to feel the overall "pulse" of the music.  You do not necessarily have to smile, just feel the music. The most beautiful performances to watch are those where the skater can connect to the music and just flow with it.

  2. Definitely just have a exited/ happy look on ur face and put a lot of energy into ur moves. that has happened to me before where i didnt like the music, but i just did what i told u.

  3. Have you told your coach about your not liking the music very much?  I assume you paid your coach to edit it and if you don't like it, I would talk to her  or him about either changing the music or selecting different parts to edit in so you find it more acceptable.

Skating is far too expensive of a sport for you not to be enjoying the music to which you're skating, in my humble opinion.  Honesty is key. :)
