  1. skating is hard and takes real committment. all those people are ignorant because they really dont know how hard it is until they try. if poker is a sport then of course figure skating is. it takes agility, flexiblity, and money lol!! but its no joke, it may seem easy when u watch, but it may be one of the hardest sports ever!!! 2. well its Saturday night...and people are just jealous of the success of of others

  3. I don't know why some people don't like figure skating. maybe they're jealous.

figure skating is a sport and also an art. it can be hard to master, but it's well worth it. skating is like giving your feet wings. sometimes something goes wrong and you crash, but it's worth the falls to be able to fly.

poetry aside, it's a lot of fun. but the skaters you see on top of the podium worked really hard to get there. it takes a lot of strength and flexibility. it takes endurance and stamina. it takes a lot out of you, and you still have to be able to smile like it's easy.

no, figure skating isn't a joke. if you meet someone who thinks it is, ask them sometime to get out on the ice and try it.

hope this answers your question. good luck and have a great day.

  4. People think that fgureskating is a joke until they try it.  It's insanely difficult.  One must be very athletic to be a figureskater.  I don't really enjoy watching it, but I respect those who compete.

  5. Figure skating is NOT a joke. I can write all the reason why I LOVE IT and why I am all for figure skating . . .but your question is about why people are AGAINST it, so here's my answer.

I DO NOT support these reasons, but apparently these are some of the reasons why people are against it:

Competitions are judged - people say winners in sports should not "judged" - they say it's not objective.  With the judging scandals that have emerged in skating, people joke about the skating judging system.

Some say artistry shouldn't be judged in a sport. They say the artistry part is just "dance" (in which they argue dance not being a sport either).  In that sense, they say skating with "music in the background" does not count as a sport.

People joke about our costumes or make up . . . they say sport is not about "beauty".

I hate to say this, but people make assumptions about the "men" in our sport, if you know what I mean.  Many have their opinions about sexual orientation as it is . . . so there are jokes about that.

Here are some links to what people wrote about figure skating NOT being a sport . . . just remember I DO NOT support these arguments . . .but it might help to answer your question.

  6. I think people are agaist figure skating because of a few reasons, these are my reasons:

    1. They can't do it, so to make themselfs feel better they just become agaist it. Stupid, I know...but true, sadly.

    2. They can't look past the skating dresses, and the guys in tights. All they can see is the glitter, when really we just do that to have all eyes on us and add a little sparkle and shine.

    3. They think its easy, just because they can go lunges, jumps, shoot the duck, on land. So they think its easy...

    4. They don't think its a sport. Because its not a team sport, and because theres no "friday night figure skating game" on.

    6. There are no touchdowns, hitting, punching, shooting, scoring, dribbling, throwing, and such. So whats the point they think?

I hate it when people just look at me when I tell them I figure skate. If only the knew that some people spend tons of money and tons of time every single day working hours and hours just to perfect one single move. -sigh-

  7. nope figure skating is a sport all its own its no joke you have to work hard to be able to do figure skating but trust me im noo expert either.

  8. It's no joke!  It's been the most difficult, frustrating, painful sport I've ever participated in........and I love it.  I love that it truely is a sport.....it takes tons of practice, a lot of strength and even more determination, but it's also got the added element of making it look easy and putting it all to music to make it entertaining.  Only a tiny percentage of skating's participants really reach the top levels of competition...you probably have more of a realistic shot at getting into the NFL or NBA than being an Olympic figure skater!  I think *some* people have a hard time accepting figure skating as a sport due to the costumes and music, but with things like "Dancing with the Stars," people are more readily accepting dancing as a sport because of what these people go through in training and practice....you have popular athletes admitting that it's one of the hardest things they've ever done!  Plus with skating, as in dance, you really only get your few minutes to give it your best shot.  If you s***w up in the first few seconds of your performance, your whole "game" is toast after you've spent hour upon hour practicing.  It's not like "mainstream" sports where if you fall or stumble, it's no big deal -- or it's celebrated!  Figure skating ain't no joke!!!!  :)

  9. I've been a competitive figure skater for five years and I KNOW that figure skating is NO joke!!!! Figure skating is HARD WORK! The more in depth you get into the sport that harder and harder it gets. It starts with just stroking around the rink and then all of a sudden you turning doublr axels!!!! And to get to the hard stuff it takes work and commitment.

People look at figure skating as just being a bunch of "twirl girls" but thats NOT true! Those "twirl girls" had to work their a** off to get to where they are now!!!!

  10. most people are because men are doing it also and they think it's a womens sport not a mans sport
