So my friend just joined skating at the USFA basic level program. She has only been in it 6 times and completed the sixth level out of 8. She passed level 6 on testing day and was only in that level for 2 days. She can do back crossovers really fast and also one foot spins, back edges, hockey stops and a ton of other stuff like 3 turns. IS that good?? Or is she going at a slow rate?

  1. holy cow she is going extremely fast!!!! ive been skating for three years and i'm still not so good at one foot spins so only six times and one foot spins is amazing.

    wowie,zowie!!!!!!!!!

  2. It sounds like your friend is progressing very quickly.  She just has to be careful that she is doing everything correctly....speed isn't everything.  In our Learn to Skate classes (USFSA), our classes are set in 7 week sessions.  We usually work on the level the skaters have tested to, plus a little bit from the next level, but most often, I only test one level at a time.  Are you saying your friend passed levels 1-6 in 6 weeks?  I guess it is possible if she got through the very basics quickly.  She just has to be careful not to rush through the levels and make sure she's got everything down so that when she gets more advanced, her coach isn't going to have to correct bad habits.  :)

  3. It depends who the person is and how  old they are. I would say that it all depends on the person and at what speed they learn at.

  4. She is doing very well! Most people, kids, take at least two years to do well executed spins and footwork. Can she do any jumps yet? If so, then watch out!!!

  5. She sounds like she is doing very well. Every skater has their own rate that they learn which is right for them, but from what it sounds like she is doing very well.

  6. ehh. back crossovers are really easy, same with one foot spins and hockey stops. i'd have to see her 3 turn spins.

but she sounds like she's doing alright.

    juss practice alot!

  7. thats awesome! hope you guys keep learning fast.

  8. where do you live????? in america you cant test unless your last test was at least a month before

  9. in the US you can test however many times you want. The restriction is that if you fail a test you can't retake it for 28 days. I don't believe that she is referring to usfsa testing, she's referring to basic skills levels (think snow plow sam)
