  1. I asked a similar question to yours about a year ago, when I was fourteen. I thought I was way too old to learn how to skate. I know that probably neither of us will get into the Olympics, but that's just bad luck that we've both wanted to learn to skate at an older age. My ambition is to skate in at least one competition (not necessarily the serious ones!, just a small comp) as money etc in my house is v. tight! so i'm not aiming high if i can't afford the extra coaching. and I keep telling myself that however slow I progress, I'm still going to keep skating for as long as I can, until personal injuries or finances prevent me from doing so. My final messgae to you, would be to ignore anyone who says you can't (even though everyone so far seems to be saying the same as me!) and to try your very hardest, no matter what. Who knows, maybe we'll compete against eachother one day!

  2. I do figure skating professionally if you want to go to the olympics yes it is too old most olympic winners start at 4 ! But if you want some fun and just be good at it of course not !!!! And who knows maybe you could be the first person to start at 16 and go to the olympics !!! xx Have fun !

  3. Its never too old. It might be now for competitevly, but it will still be fun and you might be able to get into a pretty decent level. Part of the reason is that some of the moves require lots and lots of flexibility you lose with age if you dont keep strechting when your young.

Also people have gone to the olympics that only started when they were twelve.

  4. No way!  Actually, at 16 you might be able to pick up the basics quickly.  Check into group lessons to get your basics down and ask if they have an adult class so you don't have to skate with the little kids.  You can still do competitions and at 21, you can skate as an adult.  Adults have their own test track, competitions and even nationals.  :)  Skating is fun for all ages.  Good luck and I hope you start!

  5. Go ahead and begin some group lessons at your local rink. You are never too old to learn...there are people in their 80's that skate. Have fun!

  6. It's never too late to learn and you can work towards competing in adult competitions.

  7. I started at age 37. I think skating is a terrific sport for every age - it's both physically and mentally challenging. You'll find lots of adults at your rink and they will probably put you in those group classes rather than with the kindergartners (which is a good thing).  Get out there and skate!

  8. Not at all--skating is a sport that can be enjoyed regardless of age..You won't rise to a competitive level, but you will certainly learn skills & techniques that you will be able to use in skating for pleasure for years to come.. Go for it..I'm almost 60, but I still enjoy just being on skates..

  9. not at all...if u want to..go for it...im 16 and ive just started it.its really good...enjoy it! :)

  10. No way! If you really love it and get into, you can do collegiates when you get to college!

After starting groups and getting through a few levels, you can start private lessons and after about 2 years you can start testing.

In college, you can join a club and possibly compete. Here is more info and the schools:
