I am a figure skater and everyone tells me im really good and could go far.

Does anyone have off ice training excercises , diet plans or other sports that would aid my figure skating!

Also is weight a very important factor in figure skating as all my figure skating friends are very skinny and im 14 and around 10 stone and wear size 8-10.

Ideas on how i can improve, besides practice? (detailed results please)

  1. well lol lots of protein is good (chicken etc) salads are good but go for italian dressing umm water is good when you aren't training but propel is good during practice bc it replaces electrolytes no pop!! lots of fruit yogurt granola stay away from fast food salads are ok if you have no other choice definetly stay away from too much dairy and fatty foods (fried foods, ice cream, noooo chocolate etc) peanut butter is good just basically healthy foods but in reality you can eat anything you want as long as its in moderation

try taking ballet or pilates off ice to increase your flexibility, carriage and strength i'm sure theres some kind of off ice classes offered at a rink near you or even some place like fitworks take advantage of that

ask your coach what you as a skater need specifically i'm sure your coach will have some input for you !!

    Good Luck :)

  2. Try yoga- it will not only help you with the flexibility and smoothness of your movements on the ice, its teachings of concentration and breathing will help you, especially if you are a competitive figure skater, for once you master the yoga practice, you will find that your focus will not be lost easily and more energy to land those triple loops and jumps.

Food- Water=extremely important, spinach- help digestive system, tofu! refrain from excessive indulgence of meat

  3. In order to do that, you need to eat healthy. No fast food or junk food or too much sweets. You need to work out every day at a gym, or at home. No sitting around in the tv all day. Ballet helps, because it's almost the same moves as figure skating.

  4. gymnastics, ballet, dance.

    and synchro and ice dancing,

    NO MCDONALDS. EVER.

but what level are you in?

and how long have you been skating?

cause if your one of those people who's skated for one or two years and then goes on and on about how amazing they are you need to just get your head out of the clouds and go practice.

  5. Take ballet lessons, take pilates, get an off ice instructor, get a skating diet from your off ice instructor, take yoga, train daily.

    Everything I do right there

  6. Ballet, Gymnastics, and a lot of stretching and exercise. it's good to bike ride everyday to get strength in your legs, maybe just run for a while everyday. try to have sugar only once or twice a week.

  7. well it depends on your skating:

but this is good for everyone i guess. but if your working on single jumps, you dont have to work as hard.

work on splits and off-ice jumping. (your coach can tell you what you are allowed to jump and how many rotations) also run, ride bikes, and even just walk to maintain you muscles.

at 14 your diet should be healthy concious but DON'T go on a diet. Eat regularly portioned meals. never over never under.

if you are starting bigger jumps like doubles and triples than you want to be of a slimmer weight to jump off the ground. you can do that by physical activity.

figure skating needs muscle and flexibility so incorperate both into your workout.

    im 14 too :D

  8. Well "Good and could go far" could mean anything, so I don't really know what advice to give you. I will give you an idea of what I do, and I am 13, skinny, and I am working on all my doubles minus double axel, and have landed 2sal, 2loop, 2flip (once) and 2toe.

    Off Ice:

Jump exercises: I do axels, double axels, plain rotations from two feet. I can do two easily, I am working on three.

Trampoline: I do rotation on here also. NOT LANDING ON ONE FOOT BECAUSE IT KILLS KNEES. I am working on my quad on the trampoline. I also do things like handsprings because they are fun :D

Stretching: I do spirals, splits, and other contortion stuff. If you are not flexible DON'T go mad, just work yourself into it. Splits took me a whole year, so don't give up after a month.

Strength: I do abs work, also squats and holding planks.

    Yoga. Pilates. Ballet.

    Swimming also helps train muscles.

Healthy Diet: Really, just watch what you eat. It is not difficult when you get in the habit of it.

On Ice: Don't just work on spins, or just jumps, etc. Make sure you work evenly on all aspects of skating, and try to improve your speed, flow, and line.

And obviously, if you are at a lower level than me, don't do as much, unless you really want to.
