Just for fun..

im just wondering what peoples favorite skating moves are

1) favorite spin. and why

2) favorite jump. and why

my favorite spin is scratch spin because its so fast

my favorite jump is flip, because its my strongest and highest jump

also, when you began the freeskate levels did you learn jumps or spins quicker. I can do all the jumps until Lutz, and I'm starting stuff for my axel, but in spinning the hardest one I can do is backspin, and only like 3 revolutions. any tips? I can kind of do a sitspin, and a camel, but not fast or centered or anything

  1. my favorite spin is sit spin cs it feels like ur sitting and then you stand up and then do a scratch spin.its like the only combo spin i can do so i feel good when i do it lol.

and jump me 2 i like flip its so fun but i dont know why. my legs dont go up for camel so i cant  do it!!!

i dont have a private lesson so i learned the spins and jumps i can do all by my self so the jumps i duno if im doing it rite lol

  2. 1. Sit Spin, because I can get extremley low, and I Just love how it feels, and when I can get up right, It Just feels good, like I accomplished something amazing!!!!!!!!!

    2. I like Salchow or Loop, because Salchow is fun in a way, and It's fun to do like 8 loops in a row!!!!!!!!!!

  3. 1) favorite spin. and why

I'd have to say back spin (gasp - I know most people hate back spins!).  For some reason it's easy and comfortable for me . . . I can do them fast, tight, and it's always centered! Second would be flying back sit . . . I love the thrill of jumping into a spin, and then again, going into a back spin in sit position.

    2) favorite jump. and why

Loop!  I love edge jumps more than toe jumps - that's just me.  Loops feel natural to me.  I guess it's the one jump I can always rely on confidently  . . . I've never messed them up in competition - hee hee!!

    3) did you learn jumps or spins quicker

The jumps definitely came quicker.  I think there are more complex issues in the timing of a spin (entrance, centering, shoulders, hips, arms, etc), so it takes longer to "get" a spin.  You can cheat or have bad technique on jumps to still jump, but you can't really fudge spins.

    Back sit tip.

Some people say to think of pressing on the pinky toe to get on the correct spot for back spinning . . . but personally I never think of that, I guess.  For me what works is a short inside edge entrance, crossing the freeleg immediately upon the turn to spin and pulling in the arms and legs tight like a squeeze and hold (it seems that's the scary part for those learning it).  All your weight needs to be on your skating side.

Don't worry about speed in your spins just yet - but do concentrate on your centering.  Centering the spin first is a major part of getting in a "good" spin.  When you understand centering, then you can build up your speed and push (with a deep knee bend) in your spin entrance to aim for more revolutions.

Thanks for the poll - and best of luck with your spins!

  4. 1. My favorite spin is either flying camel or flying sit because I love the speed you get after you switch.  Its so much fun

    2. My favorite jump is probably double toe loop because it is my best jump.

  5. Favorite spin- camel spin, I'm not exactly sure why, but I just love the feeling of spinning in the camel position.

Favorite jump- double toe, because it has always been one of my best jumps, and the feeling I get just makes me happy! Finding the best spot on your blade to spin, and getting the right position for a backspin is key to getting a good backspin. I would suggest to work on it and try slightly different foot positions and see what seems to work best at getting a better back spin. Keep practicing! Good luck!

  6. 1- Fave spin: Layback. I know, cliché but the spin feels really awesome. You literally stop knowing where gravity is pulling you up or down and visually it's the most dramatic spin of all.

2- Fave jump: I like the Salchow a lot, probably because it's my best jump. I like the Lutz a lot though I really don't know why I like that jump in particular though.

Hrm... I think I learned the single jumps faster, but even though my spins took a long time to develop, I'm better at spinning than jumping.

I've been on and off skating ever since I started my university career, but now I'm back at skating with my new skates. I can do doubles on the floor and I'm really close to landing once more my double Salchow on the ice. My single Axel which has always been my black horse jump is really close as well. I've been learning a far better way to do the figure (more like a delayed Axel) and the technique change is really working.

I'm good at most spins except the cannonball (my Pancake is good though) and the stretch spins. Oh, I suck at doing catchfoot Layback-Biellman combo spins and I've never been able to do the Doughnut spin (probably because I've never had a coach ho would teach it to me ¬¬). My only really weak backspin is the back camel but even the figure has been improving lately. At least now I can do 3 revs on it.

Still working on reverse change of feet sit spins and I've started to work on left-handed sit spins.

  7. 1. ummmm sit spin, idk....its fun and fast..

    2. hmmmmmm not sure, toeloop or flip. why? idk...toeloop is my highest jump.

ive been skating since february. when i strted freeskate levels i guess i learnt jumps faster a little but now i guess its sorta even. i can land my flip n im working on my lutz from backward crossovers. my harderst spin is a camel n back sit spin....also working on my changefoot spin.

  8. My favorite spin is the forward scratch, because it's always there for me!  And it's my fastest spin.

My favorite jump is the flip because I can get the most height on it.

I pick up spins faster than jumps.  Lots of people are the other way around, like you.  That just means you're more of a jumper than a spinner.  You just have to put in extra practice on your spins to get them as good as your jumps, while I have to do the opposite.  :)

  9. My favorite spin is a layback...its just fun, and it looks so graceful if done right.  It took a few monthes to get it really right though and not sideways or funky legs.

My favorite jump currently is a flip....its just fun...but it used to be axels before i injred my knee.  They were my favorite because once i finally landed it, it seemed so easy, like why hadn't I been able to do it for so long before.

My axel took me a year to learn once I started on it...but some people get it faster or slower, its such a different jump for everyone.

And as far as backspins, the most helpful thing anyone ever told me was to stand up straight and tighten my core (stomach) muscles to hold myself up.

    Good luck!!
