Question:

Figure skating.....?

When I was about five years old, I had ice skating lessons. Beginner classes only, though. I stop taking them after a while and now I wan to do it again. I'll be turning 14 next month. I really want to get back into skating, but I was wondering if I was too old to start it up again? I'm a cheerleader, I've done all sorts of dance, and I do gymnastics. How long do you think it would be until I could figure skate, if I were to learn how to skate again? (:

  1. It'll probably take about a year and a half to get to a higher level of ice skating, maybe longer if you weren't a gymnast.

  2. You are never too old to figure skate I began skating when I was five and it was fantastic.  I had to stop for nearly six months (we moved house) when I was 9 and I restarted lessons and in about 1 month I was back to my normal self but good luck with your skating.  If you are thinking of olympics it is too late but there are other good competitions open to young skaters!  Have Fun Skating x

  3. i m 14 and i figure skate

its not to late, i mean you wont go to the olympics

you'll probably be able to skate foward and back and do basic stuff pretty fast, just take lessons/classes and go to open skate and practice a lot it might take a year or something until you can do jumps, but you could learn spins and stuff

  4. you're never too old. the fact that you can do gymnastics and dance is helpful because that conditioned your legs so it will be easier for you to do certain jumps. if i were you, id start back at the beginner stuff so you can get used to being on the ice and skating around before you start to do jumps and spins.

  5. what do you mean by figure skate? do you mean being able to go backwards, or doing triple jumps? if you take lessons for a year and work hard, you could get a solid hold on some single jumps by then. but it depends on how often you practice, your quality of coaching, your natural ability, and your dedication. the dance and gymnastics experiences should make it easier. go for it!!

  6. You're never too old to skate :)

I used to be in a high level, but I had to stop skating for a year and a half.

I just recently got back into skating. It's hard because I lost so many skills during the break I took, but I'm slowly gaining it all back!

Go for it- especially with your background in cheerleading, dance, and gymnastics... you'll be a great skater in no time!

  7. You can skate at any age! I started when I was 26, now I'm 30. It all depends what you want out of it. I like it for challenge, pleasure, relax, place I can be on my own (I usually have the ice for myself or share with one person at most). I play music and glide around. How far can you get? Depends on many things, such as your talent/natural ability, how many days/hours a week you put into it, additional activites that might help (ballet), coaching... There are many many different skills in figure skating and there's always something to work on. Good luck!

  8. i don't no about figure skating on ice but i do figure skating on quads and i had never done it before and on my first lesson i cud do all the basics and by my second lesson i was doing jumps. i don't no if this is normal or the same as on ice but its just my experience
