  1. The round toepicks are usually on renta skates at your rink. They use the rounded ones on those skates because they are simply used by people who don't know how to skate most of the time and you are less likely to get hurt with the rounded ones. The pointed ones are for people who know how to skate because you use the in jumps and stuff and they are very important to use. So basically you don't need toepicks if you are just skating for fun, so for rental skates they just have rounded toe picks to make it safer.

    Hope That Helps.

  2. okay, the rounded toepicks are usually on recreational skates and are used by people who don't know how to skate so they can skate and stop easier! The pointed  toepicks are for more advanced skaters so when they try to push off for axels and stuff the toepick is higher so they can actually do the jump!

  3. What everyone else says...because its true...

  4. I can't say I've seen rounded toepicks except for on very worn recreational skates that don't have very large toepicks to begin with.  Usually on better blades, toepicks are either in just one row, or they're staggered.  If you've seen the new K-picks -- they're pretty cool looking -- there are sometimes 3 rows of picks to make toe take-offs more solid, not allowing the toe to slip out of the ice.  It picks are rounded, they really can't serve their purpose which is to dig into the ice for jumps and other manuvers.  I've also seen that for synthetic ice, the bottom toepick may be taken off completely.  :)

  5. The toe picks are there for a very important reason- you need them for toe jump landings and for stopping while skating backwards. You will use them more often when you go into more advanced levels. I used to figure skate, and I remember once getting my knee slashed by someone elses toe picks- it hurts.

  6. rounded toepicks are on hockey skates and beginner skates so you dont trip.

pointed toepicks are for jumping and turning and spins. as in figure skating so you can do all of the aspects of figure skating.

as you move up in levels, your toepicks become bigger, so you can do more advanced jumps, spins, and turns.
