so i've been skating for a long time now and i'm working on a triple jump. the thing is that if i get the jump clean like on my toe i can't get my free leg out in time and i end up falling on a perfectly good jump. however if i do get my leg out it won't be fully rotated and i'll cheat the last half rotation. does anyone have any advice as to what i should do so i can get my leg out and my jump clean? thanks

  1. Welcome to the triples club!! haha

My secret for landing triples....squeeze your butt cheeks!

    Here is mine: http://youtube.com/watch?v=2N_tmH6y7ng&f...

I almost didn't get it but I'm serious...squeeze them butt cheeks!

  2. I can't give you advice on a triple jump because I was only beginning to land double jumps when I had to stop ice skating. What the other girl told you may help you land the jump easier, so you might want to give it a try.

As to whether the ice skating will kill you -- not unless you break your neck or hit your head the wrong way. I've never heard of a figure-skater dying from falling on a jump.  As for the Arthritis, you betcha, it can definitely give you Arthritis, hun. I took ballet for many years and ice-skated from the time I was 11 until I was 18. Even Dorothy Hamill has had her hip replaced because Osteo (bone) Arthritis has finally 'eaten her lunch.' It also got to me and I was only in Freestyle 4, but I had a strong family history of it, plus I was also in a bad car accident. The truck that hit my car won, so I did not have a chance of not developing Arthritis. The Carpel Tunnel Syndrome that a lot of typists have is very similar and in the same catagory as Arthritis as an Immunosuppressant Disease. You normally control the pain with medication, but I truly think you are a long way away from that. When you hit your mid 40's, yes, you may feel Arthritis pain. If you do, see a Rheumatologist quickly to keep it from becoming Chronic. Athritis doesn't always show up in a blood test, but there are other ways and other types of illnesses that can lead up to Arthritis. And anyone that does an excessive amount of practicing anything is very likely to get Arthritis later on in your middle years.

Best of luck to you on landing that triple jump and I hope you never

ever have to face the pain of Rheumatoid or Osteo Arthritis because both are very painful and require that you usually take a prescription medication on a daily basis. Don't want to rain on your parade, but it is highly possible since you are probably in at least Freestyle 6, 7 or 8. I just want to make you aware that there is a very good likelyhood of developing one or both forms of Arthritis considering what you are doing. Keep up the good work and I hope you land all of your triple jumps.  Good for you!!!   :-)

  3. i had the same problem. but not on a triple cuz i havent gotten there yet.

but i do get wut ur saying.

so how i fixed mine wuz focusing on pulling my free-leg hip up which automatically brought my whole leg up.

then think tall and lift up ur rib cage.

a very good skater and a couple coaches (and cathy casey--at a clinic) taught me that.

    so hopefully that helps.

its rly hard for me to do that so it wont work on the first try--prbly--but try it a bunch of times and it will get better.

    hope i helped.

  4. well im sorry, but your question is a little TOO harsh and like un-realistic, no offense. but maybe you should be asking your coach for advice and for help!
