Fiji badminton squad aim to win maximum medals in the 2011 Pacific Games – Badminton News
Badminton squad of Fiji desires to win maximum medals in the 2011 Pacific Games, which will take place in New Caledonia, from August 23. The national team of Fiji is working hard to prepare well for this event.
Pacific Games are conducted once in every four years. In the last edition of this event in 2007, Fiji’s team remained unlucky, as they lost many title matches to their opponents of different countries.
Andra Whiteside, the main player and captain of the national team of Fiji, said that they are working really hard in the practice sessions to become well prepared in every aspect of the game. He is confident to perform better and win more medals in the 2011 edition of Pacific Game, as compared to the previous episode in 2007.
Andra said, “We are looking more medals compared to the last Pacific Games where we only won one gold medal and a couple of silvers and a bronze so this year we hopeful we want to get more.”
The governing body of Badminton in Fiji is working hard on the athletes by providing them with the maximum possible training and coaching facilities, which is helping shuttlers in the improvement of their physical and mental fitness of the game.
Andra, who has clinched the title in the recent Fiji Badminton International championship, held in Suva, Fiji, says that he will not underestimate any team or player in the Pacific Games.
While talking about the chances of the Fiji team in the Pacific Games 2011, Andra said, “There are few teams especially New Caledonia and Tahiti is quite strong as well as we really looking and keeping close eyes on them but also knowing that we need to play hard out as all other teams in the competition will be tougher this year.”
Fiji has improved a lot in their game and is making their presence felt at the international level, as many shuttlers are representing the country in major international events, which are conducted by the Badminton World Federation.
