Fiji’s Whiteside determined to grab gold medal at the 2011 Pacific Games – Badminton news
Fiji’s young and talented shuttler, Whiteside, is quite confident to grab the gold medal at the 2011 Pacific Games as the shuttler has been working really hard in the training sessions and is ready to shine now.
Whiteside made her presence felt at the 2007 Pacific Games, as she clinched three silver medals by playing wonderful badminton against some higher ranked shuttlers. She also participated at the Oceania Championship which took place in 2010, in New Zealand.
The young shuttler came into the badminton court at the age of five and now, she has an extensive experience of more than twelve years. She is quite determined to help her country in winning the gold medal at the Pacific Games.
While speaking about her game, she said, "I started playing when I was five, but it was on and off due to studies. I think I have been playing badminton for the past 12 years now."
In the Pacific Games, there are challenging opponents in the way of Fiji towards the gold medal and these tough rivals include Tahiti and New Caledonia. There are also some other teams that can spoil the party of Fiji’s shuttlers in the tournament.
While talking about her preparations for the Pacific Games, Whiteside said, "I have been training well for the past couple of months and I believe it will not be an easy outing in New Caledonia. All I have to do is give my best shot and hopefully improve
from where I left off in Samoa."
She further added, "My goal is to win gold this time. I won two individual silver medals and one team silver medal in Samoa and I'm hoping to grab gold now."
Fiji’s squad is set to leave for New Caledonia next week to participate in the Pacific Games. The squad comprises on Whiteside, Aushia Keil, Alissa Dean, Andra Whitside and Carline Bentley in the female category, whereas, Shivneil Chand, Nilesh Lagendra,
Burty Molia and Leon Jang are the male shuttlers to represent the country.
