File Recovery from Dead Drive?

Question

My old computer died two years ago. I just found recovery software and was wondering how I could retrieve my old files and put them on my new computer. Please offer step by step instructions.

I assume your old computer died not as a result of hard drive failure.  In any case, install your old hard drive onto your new computer as a slave drive.  You will be able to see the files and copy them onto your new hard drive.

I would try this approach first since it's easiest to do.  If it doesn't work, then use your recovery software.
