If a vehicle that is in washington has california plates, and you file for lost title and have it signed by a notorary, can that vehicle still get registered into your name just so as long as you have the last registered owners information? With all of that can the process of a title being sent to me in the mail still occure?

  1. Be careful when buying a vehicle with no title.  Check with the DMV first.

No.  You need the title.  Title = certificate of ownership.

Don't settle for less (signed title at the time of purchase).

    Good Luck....

  3. It's hard to tell from your question.  Is this your car, that is to say, is the title in YOUR name?  If not you would have to go to whoever is on the title and have them apply for a lost title and sign it over to you.

  4. The only person that can file for a lost title is the owner. The application must be to the state that the title is issued in. Washington will not issue a Washington title if the 'lost' title was from Ca. Ca will not issue a title unless it is requested by the owner.
