Question:

Filing my 2007 taxes...?

I still haven't filed my taxes for this year. I keep remembering and then forgetting, pathetic I know. Granted, my income was only about $10,000 as a poor, starving college student. I definitely still want/need to file, but I was wondering if I should anticipate additional costs if I go through H&R Block.

Thanks!

  1. If you only have a w-2 to file on, you should do it yourself.  Its free & very easy.  See:  www.irs.gov

And if they owe you money, which they proboly do, there is no penalty for filing late.

Get that money girl!  You know you need it!

  2. If you live near an IRS walk in office, they might even help you fill out the return for free....

  3. You would have the regular cost but not an additional cost for filing late.

  4. Of course you'll have additional costs if you go to Block.  They don't do them for free!

With your low income you can probably e-file for free through the portal on the IRS website.  Or you can just download the forms from the IRS website and do it the old fashioned way by hand.

  5. If you aren't confident in doing it yourself, Turbo Tax is a great program and only runs about $40.  It's what I've used for the past 3 years and I'm very happy with it.

You should file sooner rather than later.  If they owe you the don't care if you wait 20 years, but if you owe them, they will get crabby sooner.

  6. IRS e-file Options For:

Individual Taxpayers File your 2007 Individual Income Tax Return electronically (available through October 15, 2008).

You may even qualify to file online for free through the Free File program.

Visit IRS website to file for free.
