The Borussia Monchengladbach skipper rued missed chances against the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 and admitted that his side could have won the game.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fillip-c13783 Daems believes that his side were brilliant against Wolfsburg, but were unlucky not to have scored a winner on Saturday. The two teams locked horns on February 04, at the Volkswagen Arena with both sides securing a point
each. The skipper is impressed with his side’s showing and praised the determination shown.
As a result of that goalless draw, the Foals have stayed fourth on the league standings with 40 points, three short of Borussia Dortmund who occupy the top spot. When asked whether it was quick counter attacking from the Foals
or a great defensive strategy by Wolfsburg, Daems opined that it was a mixture of both. He insisted that both the attackers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrick-Herrmann-c29275, created enough opportunities, but were either denied by the opposition goalkeeper or the linesmen’s
offside flag.
While talking to the official Bundesliga website, the 33-year-old further added:
“It's a bit of both. We knew Wolfsburg tend to play high up the pitch and they did that very well. On the other hand, the speed that we attack at, there's always the chance that the pass comes a fraction of a second late or the
forward sets off a moment too soon. That's a calculated risk on our part, the important thing is that we create a few scoring opportunities.”
However, Daems believes that his side were below-par during the second-half, which is something that the Foals need to work on to stay alive in the title race.
“We were the better side in the first half, but our game was too hectic after the break, especially our build-up play. That's something we need to work on,” the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 international concluded.
Monchengladbach blew the chance of securing a second-place finish at the end of the week after Bayern Munich and Schalke played draws in their respective games. The Foals face Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536 in a mid-week DFB-Pokal fixture in a
bid to qualify for the semi-final of the competition.
