Filip Horansky, Kaichi Uchida make it to Boys’ Singles third round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Seeded fifth in the Boys’ category of 2011 Wimbledon Championships, Filip Horansky of Slovakia qualifies for the third round of the tournament after defeating the Belarusian opponent, Yaraslua Shyla on Tuesday.
The contest took place at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England, with the Slovak competitor completely dominating his opponent to register a straight sets victory at 6-4, 6-4, to advance further
in the tournament.
Horansky merely took 59 minutes of play to oust Shyla in the most comprehensive manner to book a spot in the third round of the Grand Slam event. His brilliance was seen in every segment of the game as he took down the 18-year-old
Belarusian in the contest.
Both boys served with identical accuracy of 60 per cent in the contest and were equally good on bagging points on their first serve as well. The only difference which mattered was the two serve breaks registered by Horansky to
take both the sets away from his opponent. Shyla had three opportunities to break the rival’s serve but he squandered all of them to remain at a disadvantage in the contest.
The Slovak drew first blood in the contest when he broke Shyla to bag the opening set at 6-4 and then did the same in the following set to seal victory. Despite of belting 21 winners in the match, as compared to Horansky’s 12,
Shyla finished the contest on the losing side. The fifth seed will next face the German qualifier, Robin Kern in the third round of the competition to fight for a place in the quarter-finals.
The Japanese competitor, Kaichi Uchida, also won his second round encounter against Ben Wagland of Australia on Tuesday afternoon. The Japanese toiled very hard for two hours before he finally won the three-set thriller at 7-6(3),
4-6, 6-3, to qualify for the third round of Wimbledon Championships.
The evenly poised contest featured a tough fight for both players but Uchida eventually came out as the winner in the end. Both contestants broke the opponent’s serve four times each in the match but it was Uchida who kept bagging
crucial points on regularity to edge past the Australian.
Uchida dropped the second set early to fall back on the back foot but came back in the game to reel off the third set to conclude victory. He will face Kimmer Coppejans of Germany in the third round of the Grand Slam tournament.
