Filip Horansky, Marcos Giron move into the third round of Boys’ Singles – French Open 2011
Filip Horansky defeats Julien Cagnina 6-3, 7-6(5)
Third seed Filip Horansky of Slovakia prevailed over Julien Cagnina of Belgium in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(5) in the second round of French open at Roland Garros in Paris on Tuesday. The Slovakian needed just an hour and seventeen
minutes to undo his opponent in a one-sided contest.
Horansky took the early lead as he broke Cagnina in the first game of the opening set but the Belgian broke back immediately to level the score at 1-1. The Slovakian broke again in the fifth game and held his serve in the next
game to take a 4-2 lead. Serving to stay in the set at 3-5, Cagnina failed to hold his serve and lost the set 3-6.
Horansky delivered 70 percent of the first serves and grabbed 79 percent of the points on them in the first set. The Slovakian failed to save the only break point he faced but converted three of the six break points he received
in the opening set.
In the second set, Horansky and Cagnina broke each other once in the first twelve games and squared off the score at 6-6 to force a tie-break. The Slovakian bagged a single mini-break in the tie-break to claim it 7-5. The 18-year-old
kept his first serve percentage at 69 percent and sealed 74 percent of the points on the first serve.
The Slovakian is slated to face Dominic Thiem of Austria in the third round.
Marcos Giron beats Kaichi Uchida 6-2, 6-1
American Marcos Giron thrashed Kaichi Uchida of Japan in straight sets to reach the third round. Giron dropped just three games, winning the second round match 6-2, 6-1 in just 55 minutes.
Uchida broke the American in the second game of the opening set, taking a 2-0 lead. After that, it was all Giron show as he did not lose even a single game, clinching six straight games and breaking his opponent three times to
win the set 6-2.
The American hit two aces and 62 percent of the first serves, sealing 85 percent of the points on them in the first set. Giron won three of the four break points he received and succeeded in saving one of the two break points he
faced in the opening set.
The 17-year-old crushed Uchida in the second set as he allowed the Japanese to win only a single game, breaking his opponent thrice and sealing the set 6-1.
The American capitalised on three of the six break point opportunities he created on Uchida’s serve and managed to save all the five break points on his own serve in the second set.
Giron is drawn to play fourth seed Oliver Golding of Great Britain in the third round.
