Filip Horansky ousts Mac Styslinger to clear Boys’ Singles opening round – US Open 2011
Seeded at number six in the Boys’ Singles draws, Filip Horansky of Slovakia took down the unseeded American contestant, Mac Styslinger, in the opening round of the US Open on Monday afternoon.
Being played at the Court 4 of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park, of Queens, New York City, United States, Horansky displayed his amazing hard-court tennis skills to outplay his opponent
in an exciting three-setter.
The Slovak settled the final scores at 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, taking one hour and thirty six minutes of play to move into the second round of the Grand Slam tournament. Horansky got hold of the match early by pocketing the opening set
but a tremendous comeback from Styslinger brought a twist in the matchup, as the American absolutely blew away the sixth seeded competitor in the second set. Horansky kept his focus in the game and made his way back in the final set to conclude a convincing
victory in the end.
The sixth seeded Slovakian delivered just 55 per cent of his serve on target but reeled off 33 out of 42 first serve points in the game to take down his opponent. Horansky’s victory was assisted by nine expensive double faults
from Styslinger, whose errant stroke play wore him out in the later parts of the contest.
The Slovak was off to a steady start in the opening set and no serve breaks were seen in the first six games of the match. Horansky finally nailed his first break point conversion of the day in the seventh game and then held his
serve to lead 5-3 in the opener. Styslinger coughed four double faults in the first set and failed to craft a single break opportunity, letting his opponent to sustain his lead in the game. Horansky wrapped up the opening set at 6-4 to get one up in the contest
but a dramatic turnaround in the following set was seen, with Styslinger stinging two straight serve breaks to fly to a 5-0 lead.
The second set fell to Styslinger’s name but the American went through a drastic slump in the final set, dropping his serve in the fourth game to let Horansky close out the contest in his favour. The Slovak moved into the next
round of the tournament to face the unseeded Russian, Aslan Karatsev, for a place in the third round.
