Filip Peliwo crushes Noah Rubin in the quarter-finals – Boys’ Singles French Open 2012
Fifth seed, Filip Peliwo of Canada, scored a one sided win over USA’s Noah Rubin in the quarter-final at the French Open in Paris on Wednesday. The Canadian dropped just four games in the entire contest, winning it in straight
sets 6-4, 6-1.
Making a stable start to the match, Peliwo and Rubin held their serve in the first eight games and squared off the score at 4-4. The Canadian hit a blow to his opponent in the ninth and served it out at 5-4.
Peliwo banged one ace but his first serve percentage was quite low, as he put just 46 of them and won nine of the 13 points. His conversion rate was stunning on the second deliveries, pocketing 11 of the 15 points. The 18-year-old
played safe game, as he hit only one winner and did not make any unforced error. Peliwo made the most of his only break opportunity and did not provide any to his American rival in the opener.
The Canadian and Rubin started the second set by winning their serve in the opening two games, equalising the proceedings at 1-1. Peliwo played flawlessly later on, as he did not allow the American to win even a single game, breaking
him three times and snatching five in a row to triumph 6-1.
The right-hander, Peliwo, did not have a good first delivery percentage, as he kept it on 55 but still he smacked two aces. His conversion rate was once again brilliant, claiming 10 of the 11 points. In a similar fashion to the
opener, Peliwo did not play attacking shots but kept retrieving, firing only two winners. The Canadian saved the only break threat he came across and availed all the three chances he received in the second set.
Peliwo will either face top seed, Luke Saville of Australia, or Czech Republic’s Adam Pavlasek, seeded 11th at the event, in the semi-finals.
In their previous matches, Saville defeated Matteo Donati of Italy in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 and Pavlasek ousted American contender, Spencer Papa, with the same score line 6-4, 6-3 in the quarter-finals.
