Filip Peliwo ousts Deiton Baughman in opening round – Boys’ Singles US Open 2012

Second seed Filip Peliwo took down the local contender, Deiton Baughman, in straight sets at the Boys’ Singles US Open 2012 on Monday. He juggled up a 6-3, 6-3 success against the 16-year-old to charge into the second round at this major hard court event

The Canadian seed showed brilliant class to outsmart Baughman in their first meeting. After stealing the limelight in one hour and 14 minutes, Peliwo convincingly advanced into the round of 32 at this last of the four Grand Slam events.
Peliwo assertively entered the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. He amazingly warded off all three breakpoints he came across to keep his entire serves. The Canadian got the breakthrough in the sixth game after capitalising on one out of two
break chances and eventually sealing the opener by winning six games to three.
The 18-year-old maintained consistency in his game in the proceeding set. He swiftly bagged his entire serves without encountering any breakpoint. Peliwo availed two out of nine break opportunities and subsequently clinched the set with a 6-3 score line.
Summing up the Canadian youngster’s performance, Peliwo fired six aces and finished the match with 66 points. He manifested an equal first serve share of 56 per cent and impressively marked 28 out of 50 points on it.
Next up for Peliwo is the Greek challenger, Markos Kalovelonis, who fended off late resistance to trounce Sweden’s Filip Bergevi in straight sets.
Seeded seventh in this event, Nick Kyrgios from Australia, will join the Canadian in the round of 32. The Aussie required a single break of serve in each set to carve out a 6-4, 6-4 victory in 62 minutes.
