Filip Peliwo prevails over Nick Kyrgios in the quarter-finals – Boys’ Singles US Open 2012
Canadian player, Flip Peliwo, bounced back after losing the first set against the Aussie, Nick Kyrgios, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the quarter-finals at the Flushing Meadows 2012 in New York, United States on Friday.
The seventh seeded, Kyrgios commenced the opener with a firm resolve to clamp the winning title and levelled the scores to 2-all in the fourth game. Further, he broke his rival’s in the fifth game, securing the
lead by 3-2 and eventually towards the end capitalized a 5-2 score. The Aussie did not receive any hindrance throughout the set and came forward with a 6-2 win.
In the second set, the right-hander Canadian participant realized his declining pace and clinched the initial two games in series, topping the score line with his 2-love lead. Peliwo broke his rival’s serve twice
in the second and fourth game, bringing the score sheet to 3-1. He successfully nudged his opponent, indicating his excellent run of form and stamping a closure with his 6-3 win.
Both participants had an equal first serve accuracy of 70 percent but Peliwo took the lead by converting 14 of 19 points and securing two of four serve breaks. On the other hand, Kyrgios managed to grab merely
one of the three break points in the set.
In the decider, the 17-year-old Aussie battled extremely hard against the Canadian and evened out the scores twice. However, both players repeatedly broke each other’s serves in the middle of the set but Peliwo
broke into lead at 4-3 and ultimately topping the score sheet with his 6-4 win.
The second seeded Canadian participant had reasonable stats in the ending set and he secured 66 percent first serve precision, clamping 15 of 25 points. Kyrgios pounced three aces on his opponent and had a 56
percent first serve accuracy. He converted eight of 15 points with two of seven break points in the closing set.
The Canadian junior will battle against the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka. He gave an upset to the third seeded Italian, Gianluigi Quinzi 6-7(7), 6-3, 6-0 in the previous round.
