Filip Peliwo trounces Joshua Ward-Hibbert in the Boy’s Singles quarter-final – Australian Open 2012
Canadian teenager, Filip Peliwo, stomped over the British youngster, Ward-Hibbert, in straight sets at the Australian Open 2012 on Thursday. He registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the 18-year-old British to advance into the semi-finals at this major hard court tournament taking place in Melbourne, Australia.
The Canadian lad took 59 minutes to trash Ward-Hibbert in straight sets at the Melbourne Park in their first meeting.
The 17-year-old confidently stepped on court number six and easily plucked in entire serves after warding off both break opportunities he came across. He converted one out of two break opportunities to his advantage in the sixth game and clinched the opening set with a 6-3 score line in almost half an hour.
The Canadian manifested a better first serve share of 57 percent as compared to their opponent’s 50 percent and earned an amazing 16 out of 21 points on it.
Peliwo went berserk into the second set as he unleashed barrage of massive forehands to go on a four games rampage before the British could hold on. Later, the Canadian rising star held remaining serves without facing any obstacle and pocketed the set with a 6-2 win.
The Canadian formulated a lower first serve share this time around but clicked spectacular 8 out of 10 points on it. He cashed in both break chances early in the set which earned him the spotlight.
Next up for Canadian lad is the American qualifier, Mackenzie McDonald, who made an epic comeback after losing the opening ten games to overpower the Czech youngster, Robin Stanek.
The 10th seeded Czech, Adam Pavlasek, will accompany the Peliwo in the last four. He stunned the fourth seed, Kaichi Uchida, in straight sets to reach this spot.
The Czech starlet lost his serve twice but capitalised on half of the four break chances to bag the opener with a 6-3 success in 24 minutes.
Pavlasek raised the bar of his game in the second set as he quickly swiped in entire serves without facing any breakpoint. He converted one out of two break opportunities to his advantage in the fourth game and won the set with a 6-3 score line again.
The Czech youngster will square off against the top seed, Luke Saville, who dumped the British challenger, Kyle Edmund, in straight sets to set-up this clash.
