Filip Spoljarec confounds Tomas Dovidaitis in Men’s Singles qualification round - Slovak Open Update
Men’s Singles shuttler Filip Spoljarec of Croatia displayed great fighting skills and deposed Tomas Dovidaitis in the qualification round of the Victor Slovak Open on September 6, 2012.
He took just 23 minutes to register a favourable result of 21-13 and 21-16 and marched into second stage where he will be locking horns with the local player Matej Tomcik.
The Croatian campaigner will surely employ all of his confidence which he has earned through a splendid straight-set victory in the opening match.
In his first match, Filip’s strategy was so perfect that the opposing shuttler could not find any loophole throughout this rapidly concluded meeting.
The Lithuanian player could not read his opponent’s game and remained at the lower end in preliminary stage of first set.
Tomas Dovidaitis failed to pick the bird early and lost many valuable points. He could not end this bad patch also in the next couple of rallies and trailed behind his competitor all the way to mid-game break.
Meanwhile, Filip constantly mounted pressure and enjoyed an upper hand with respectable score position of 11 at half time.
Later part of the game saw him making a swift progress by prevailing in few nonstop rallies. He doubled the lead in third quarter of the game and left his rival far behind.
At this stage, Tomas showed some class but it was not enough to cover a huge difference of eight points in 13-21 margin.
The second set of the match started with an interesting development as the Lithuanian campaigner stunned the victorious shuttler of previous set with a strong reply.
This time Tomas kick-started his campaign with some consecutive points and strengthened his grip over the game. He did not lose focus and got into a commanding position before the announcement of break.
However, Filip proved himself late bloomer as at first he levelled the score in third quarter of the set and then started establishing a permanent lead. He continued with this rhythm and gathered valuable points at steady pace.
The Croatian shuttler maintained a significant lead of five points and served notice of his supremacy with a decisive figure of 21-16.
