Filipino boxing analyst Nathanielsz responds to Mulvaney, says Pacquiao is still the best – Boxing
Filipino boxing analyst, Ronnie Nathanielsz, has responded to boxing analyst, Kieran Mulvaney, who after seeing Manny Pacquiao’s recent performance stated Floyd Mayweather is the true best fighter in the world and should be ranked first in the pound-for-pound
rankings of the world.
The Filipino star, who recently met the Mexican Dinamita, Juan Manuel Marquez, in their highly anticipated trilogy bout on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, was expected to win in a convincing way. However, instead of putting
an exclamation mark to their concluding fight he secured a 12-round controversial majority decision over his opponent. Therefore, Mulvaney is expecting the ESPN’s and The Ring’s pound-for-pound rankings to be changed soon.
Nathanielsz however disagrees with Mulvaney because he thinks winning is all that matter at the end. Moreover, he said in order to remove Pacquiao from the number one pound-for-pound spot, Mayweather will have to beat him.
“He's number one, he's pound-for-pound king. He didn't lose,” Nathanielsz told Abs-cbnnews.com. “That's not the way the pound-for-pound (ratings) operate. You got to beat the guy on top. He didn't lose, he remains there.”
The undefeated American legend, Mayweather, who is a five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, secured a unanimous decision over Marquez when he fought him back in 2009. Thus many out there now reckon
perhaps Mayweather is superior to Pacquiao.
Nevertheless, Nathanielsz thinks that the Mayweather-Marquez fight and Pacquiao-Marquez’s fight were completely different and cannot be compared.
“You never compare boxing, like A beat B, and B beat C, therefore A beats C,” he said. “It doesn't work that way. The only way to settle it is to fight.
Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion), is the one who sent the likes of Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton into retirement and Nathanielsz is confident Pacquiao
can beat Mayweather, if he trains the same way he trained against De La Hoya and Hatton.
“If Pacquiao gets the right training, no distractions, no hangers-on, no endorsements, none of the stupid things that go on around him, he can beat Mayweather,” Nathanielsz said.
