Question:

Filipino surname or not?

My grandma's dad was Filipino and he came to Hawaii like so many other families have and because of it, we're not too sure of the family history....My grandma's maiden name was Maghanoy (at least that's the spelling I believe it to be) and it was pronounced Mah Kah Noy. I'm not sure how that last name came about but do you guys no anything? It's really hard to explain to people what race you are when you have islander tanish skin and light colored eyes lol

  2. sounds like a pacific island surname

    there are a lot of Filipino's that have Portuguese ancestors---and European

    due to various sailors and the like.....

    thus the light eyes occur more often in the island nations than in mainland   nations.

    This is for names of Filipino origin (pre Spanish influence) Maghanoy, which is definitely a surname in use in the Philipines, may have another origin, but there are many original Filipino names beginning Maca.........
