  1. all persons working in US bases in afghanistan are military personnel and are paid according to pay scale approved by US government.

  2. NATO forces operating in Afghanistan often use Incirlik airbase to fly troops and civilians. I estimate, there are at least 1000 Filipinos working in Afghanistan. They are employed as hairdressers, laundry staff, restaurant and food service crew and vehicle mechanics, among others.

Yes, a majority of these are deployed in various US and NATO bases around the country but they are usually employed by companies whose services such as catering, laundry etc have been outsourced by the military. Such Filipinos are usually hired by GCC-based companies for jobs in the Arabian Gulf region providing these services to the US and NATO forces and later sent to Afghanistan.

Also, Filipino nationals do not make as much as one would believe, by working on a US or NATO military base. From what I've heard, these Filipinos are on payrolls of Gulf based companies who have contracts with the military. The US and NATO militaries pay a fixed amount to the company which in turn pays their employees working in Afghanistan. By any estimate, Filipinos working for such companies earn around US$500 to US$750 per month plus of course, allowances such as free meals etc.

As I said, the figures I've quoted are only estimates and this answer is based on what I've heard from my various sources.

  3. i thought Filipinos are not allowed to work there? are there any? I think it's very dangerous to even stay there.

  4. It would all depend on what he does and what company he is with. I don't know how much they would make but a safe place to start is find out what company he works for and enquire with them how much the work there pays. Best of luck mate!

  5. You're right.  Aside from American soldiers, Afghanistan is populated with NATO peacekeeping forces.  For sure too, civilians - locals and from other nationalities - are employed in US bases.  It is, however, not common knowledge how much people make in such circumstances - is it base pay plus incentives?   Unless we are the person concerned, we just don't know, do we?
