Filipinos: Asian, or Pacific Islander... Or none?

Question

Well, at my school, at work, with my family, or just hanging with my friends, people like to talk about Filipinos. Now, me being a filipino makes me jump into the conversation, but I've always wanted to know one thing.

Are we Asian, Pacific Islander, or neither?

According to my tests, we are allowed to choose our ethnicity.

Now, I'm not going to list all the races, but I'll give you all three.

Asian.

Pacific Islander.

Filipino.

Now, that just confuses me. I always thought that Filipinos are Asian. Now I'm here, everybody, what are Filipinos?

Asian

Pacific Islander

or

Neither.

Well, I'm half filipino & i usually consider myself asian.

im half filipino and all filipinos i know consider themselves asian. i mean the philippines is in southeast asia

I have Filipino friends and most of them say they are Pacific Islanders but some consider themselves Asians. Most people who are not Filipino seem to count them as Asians.

All the Filipinos I know don't or can't use chopsticks. They say their country doesn't use it. Is that right?

i say filipinos are asian....although i have heard people debate that. so i will not try to push that as fact, i will just say that i consider them asian.

however i do know that filipinos are NOT pacific islanders. i have heard people call themselves that, but really its pretty clear what is considered pacific islander and filipinos dont fall in that category.

so they arent pacific islanders, that i do know. while i think its pretty obvious that they are asian, people debate that...i dont understand why but they do. so when it comes to choosing ehtnicity, if there is a specific option for filipinos then you should choose that, if not then asian. either one would be correct.
