Filipinos at Yahoo Answers!, why do you call yourselves YAPPER?

Seriously, what's the etymology of that word?

Yap = Yahoo Answers Philippines from Yahoo Answers>Travel>Asia Pacific>Philippines with Travel>Asia Pacific disregarded.

Per = apiece?

Shouldn't it be Yaper? (Yap + suffix "er")

  1. Why yapper and not yaper? If that's the case, I believe yaper as we'll read it (yey-per) doesn't roll off the tongue as good "yapper" does..

Although yapper tends to sound like we're complaining all the time, it's much preferred because it sounds better and looks "gramatically" proper than yaper(yey-per)

I know deriving "yapper" from Yahoo! answers Philippines is a bit weird, but then, that's how we roll. :)

  2. The explanation is quite simple, my dear.  It's the same reason why those who hang out a lot at Polls & Surveys (PS) call themselves PSers.  Our section is Y!A Philippines so YAP.  Merely calling ourselves YAPer doesn't have a nice ring to it.  "Parang bitin" - sounds hanging.  YAP - er.   For better and smoother gliding of the tongue   YAP - per does sound better.   Just my opinion, sweetie.  Term was already in vogue when I got here.

  3. If you look at the front page you will see that the title is

    Yahoo Answers Philippines = Y.A.P.

It is quite common in English, when adding the suffix 'er' to include the last letter, too.

    yap (yp)

    v. yapped, yap·ping, yaps

    v.intr.

    1. To bark sharply or shrilly; yelp.

    2. Slang To talk noisily or stupidly; jabber.

    v.tr.

    To utter by yapping.

    n.

    1. A sharp, shrill bark; a yelp.

    2. Slang Noisy, stupid talk; jabber.

    3. Slang The mouth: Shut your yap.

    4. Slang A stupid, crude, or loud person.

    yapper n.

The word 'yapper' as you can see does exist.

    EDIT

If you click on the flag of the Philippines at the bottom of the page and go to the front page you will see:

    Yahoo Answers Philippines

  4. Haller??? Why you think P is for Philippines only????? Can you please go visit other categories?? People call their  self a Yappers too. Yahoo! Answer People.

  5. They have been calling the people who regularly come to this forum YAPPERS even before I came here a year ago.

Shouldn't it be Yaper? (Yap + suffix "er")

*No it shouldn't. By following that train of thought, robber would be "rober".

  6. Somebody take that gun up there in the picture and shoot me in the head with it PLEASE.

  7. Excuse me, Mr.  Gun,  I have never called myself a yapper, not even once.

  8. Y!A Philippines... in short, YAP... so, when you're a regular in YAP, you call yourself as a YAPper...

  9. Maybe it was coined because there are "yuppies" in Makati...maybe that's where the double "p" are from.

I think the one who can answer this clearly is the one who made it up.
