Filippo Magnini captures Men’s 100m freestyle gold: Day five – European LC Championships
Filippo Magnini of Italy captured gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on fifth day of the ongoing European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Friday, May 25.
The Italian veteran remained prominent for gold medal from the start and proved his dominance over his challengers by occupying gold medal of the event.
His scintillating form placed him nearly two strokes ahead of his strongest opponent as he hit the finishing blockade for gold medal by posting a time of 48.77 seconds.
With his blistering pace, he remained 0.18 seconds ahead of France’s Alain Bernard, who clinched silver medal of the discipline by clocking an effort of 48.95 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Norbert Trandafir of Romania, who stayed two strokes apart and secured his spot on the podium for bronze medal by submitting a time of 49.13 seconds.
Meanwhile, Bernard’s teammate, Amaury Leveaux remained just 0.03 seconds slower from overwhelming the third position holder and hit the finishing end with the timing of 49.16 seconds.
Subsequently, Leveaux was chased by Dominik Kozma of Hungary, who stayed just 0.01 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and finished fifth in the 100m event with the timing of 49.17 seconds.
Last event of the session was Women’s 100m butterfly playoff, where Ingvild Snildal dictated terms to her opponents and proved her eligibility for gold medal of the event.
With her epic pace, Snildal managed to edge out her closest competitor over the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 58.04 seconds.
She was chased by Martina Granstroem of Sweden, who earned silver medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 58.07 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Amit Ivri of Israel, who suffered a loss of 0.71 seconds from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 58.78 seconds.
Ivri was followed by Silvia Di Pietro of Italy, who was 0.17 seconds behind and claimed fourth position with the timing of 58.95 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders raked medals for their splendid performances at the prize distribution ceremony of the tournament.
