Filippo Magnini earns Men's 200m freestyle gold medal – 2011 Italian Grand Prix
Filippo Magnini of Italy earned gold medal of Men's 200m freestyle at the 2011 Italian Grand Prix on Saturday, November 19.
The 29-year-old Magnini was the first swimmer to leap in to the water. His fastest dive coupled with his remarkable strokes placed him marginally ahead of his opponents and he ended his initial 50 meters in a fastest time of 24.47 seconds.
His outstanding efforts in the initial round placed him 0.67 seconds ahead of Gianluca Maglia, who completed his round in a time of 25.14 seconds. He was followed by Cesare Sciocchetti, who remained 0.20 seconds slower than him and ended his round in a time
of 25.34 seconds. 
With his persistent efforts, Magnini continued to serve notice of his talent and concluded his second round with a timing of 51.31 seconds. Sciocchetti elevated his efforts in the second round and appeared as the second fastest swimmer by concluding his
round in the time of 52.08 seconds. He was trailed by Maglia, who remained 0.61 seconds slower than him and hit the wall with a timing of 52.69 seconds.
Magnini continued his efforts in the third round, where he extended his lead to 0.97 seconds from his strongest opponent. He clocked a time of 26.76 seconds to post 1 minute and 18.07 seconds for the top spot.
Sciocchetti remained almost a half body length behind him and ended his third round in a time of 26.96 seconds to submit 1 minute and 19.04 seconds. He was chased by 23-year-old Maglia, who hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 20.22 seconds for third
fastest spot.
In the final round, the 29-year-old accelerated his efforts and reported a time of 1 minute and 45.07 seconds for gold medal. Magnini was chased by Sciocchetti, who was 1.26 seconds away from him and produced a time of 1 minute and 46.33 seconds for silver
medal.
Subsequently, Maglia remained 0.23 seconds slower than his former finisher and appeared on the finishing end with a timing of 1 minute and 46.56 seconds for bronze medal.
Furthermore, the podium finishers were awarded accolades for their beautiful swims after the session.
