Filippo Pozzato hopeful to find place in Italian team for World Championships – Cycling News
Filippo Pozzato has already made it clear that he will leave team Katusha by the end of the season and will sign up with a different team. Reason behind his exit from Katusha is because he has conflicted with the team manager Andrei Tchmil on many occasions
and both have not been very comfortable with each other during race events.
Pozzato has received offers from Farnese Vini-Neri Sottoli and Saxo Bank-SunGuard but he has not made any decision yet as he said, “When I’ve signed, I’ll tell everyone, There are a lot of teams that are interested but I can’t say just yet.”
Filippo is currently participating in Tour of Poland and is hopeful to get good results from the Tour as his performance at Poland can earn him a place in the Italian team for the coming World Championships. He is aware of the fact that it will not be easy
for him to make his space in the Italian squad as he has not ridden in Vuelta a Espana.
He said, “It’s going to be very difficult to earn a place in the Italian team because I’m not riding the Vuelta but that was the team decision. I’m trying to get fit by riding other races. It’ll be difficult but I’m motivated to try and end the season as
well as I can.”
He was dropped out in the Giro d’ Italia despite his good performance in the spring classics. The Italian fractured his wrist after he faced a crash at the Tour of Belgium and the Italian was again not selected for Vuelta a Espana. He stated that he is recovering
from the injuries and is aware that he is not fit for racing as he has been away from the professional cycling for two months.
Pozzato finished the stage 3 of the Tour of Poland at the 63rd position with Marcel Kittel, Romain Feillu and Jonas Aaen Jorgensen at the first, second and third positions respectively. The Italian is at Number 92 after the stage 3 general classification
and with four more days to go in the Tour he is hopeful to perform better in the coming stages.
