Filippo Volandri and Jaroslav Pospisil to meet in the quarterfinals of 2011 Barletta Open.
Filippo Volandri vs. Peter Luczak
Italian Filippo Volandri, 80th in the world, cast out Peter Luczak of Australia in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) in the second round of 2011 Barletta Open, Barletta, Italy. It took two hours and twenty minutes for the Italian to
outplay his opponent. Though giving a tough fight, the Australian lost his concentration and handed him the match in three thrilling sets.
The Australian, Luczak, started off great as opposed to his contender. He hit two aces, 65 per cent of first serves and earned an impressive 91 per cent win on them. Whereas, Volandri played at his worst, converting meager 61 per
cent on his 69 per cent first serves. Banking on his first serve winning percentage, Luczak sewed up the first set with a 6-2 score line.
Volandri hit 83 per cent of the first serves, winning 58 per cent of points on them. Luczak on the other hand fired in a single ace, 50 per cent of the first serves and won 53 per cent of points on them. By a fluke, Volandri saved
67 per cent of breakpoint opportunities as compared to Luczak’s 25 per cent and went one up in the set with a 6-3 score line.
In the final set both players converted equal number of points on first serves i.e. 63 per cent. Luczak struck 5 aces and 63 per cent first serves, whereas Volandri double faulted once and delivered 60 per cent first serves. Volandri
and Luczak held their serve in the next six games to level the score at 6-6, taking the set to a tie-break. The Italian claimed a single mini-break in the tie-break to win it 7-5.
Jaroslav Pospisil vs. Adrian Ungur
Czech Jaroslav Pospisil ousted Adrian Ungur of Romania in straight sets in the second round of 2011 Barletta Open. The Czech completed his victory in one hour and fifty six minutes to ensure his presence at the quarterfinals of
event which is the 15th edition of 2011 ATP Challenger tour.
In the opening set, Pospisil delivered two aces, double faulted two times and converted 63 per cent points on his first serves, whereas the Romanian committed three double faults and converted 54 per cent points on his first 54
per cent serves. Pospisil saved 2 out of 3 break point opportunities and stood victorious with a 6-2 set score.
The second set saw the 30-year-old Czech hitting a single ace and 58 per cent of first serves. Ungur on the other hand, hit 2 aces and delivered 67 per cent first serves. Players shared a slightly different conversion rate, Pospisil
won 57 per cent points on first serves, and Ungur had a 61 per cent gain on them. Pospisil converted 80 per cent of his break point opportunities and that handed him the final set with 6-4 set score.
Volandri and Pospisil will face each other for the first time in the quarterfinals of 2011 Barletta Open.
