Question:

Filling Fell Out?

My filling fell out and I'm going to the dentist for a check up tomorrow. I get really freaked out when I have to get an injection in my mouth, so if someone could tell me whether or not the dentist needs to give me another injection for the repair job, I would appreciate it.

  1. It depends on how big the filling is. If it's just a chip, you may not need anesthesia or the doc may be able to smooth it down. If it's larger, especially if it's close to the nerve of the tooth (and the dentist can assess this), then you really, really want that shot. I don't like needles either, but I'll take a stick thats last a few seconds to the agony of drilling without anesthesia ANY day.

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) may help you endure the needle and the procedure in general. In most cases it can't take the place of local anesthesia. It doesn't deaden, it just changes your perception of pain - and makes you not care as much.

  2. usually to put in a filling or replace a filling some sort of numbing is used. they will probably give you a shot, but im not positive. they might not even need to repair it at all.

  3. no if you dont want the injection ask for lafughting gas works just the same and yo feel nothing instead of the shot!
