I had a root canal done last friday.I had a temporary filling for a week and today, they put the real silver filling. The dentist said I will need a crown because the hole to the tooth was big and tooth is more brittle.

My question is,how soon do you think I must get it?? Will I be ok for about a year? I'm just a broke college student.I need to save money for this crown! He said a week my tooth will be fine to eat,but now I'm just scared to chew on that side in week..

Its was the upper right hand side molar.

  1. It is better if you go for the crown ASAP. As the RCT tooth is likely to fracture anytime if accidently some hard food is chewed from that side. You can have detailed knowledge about this on webiste www.identalhub.com

  2. I have had a temporary filling for 2 years now and it's just fine. I would wait and just not chew down hard stuff on that side. The tooth will most likely become brittle over a period of time depending how big the filling is. But i don't think within a year it will break , just take care of it and don't worry be happy.

Even if it broke, what is the worst thing that could happen??? they can still crown a broke tooth, they are gonna file it down into a peak anyway. Live life, take some chances, and smile a lot at every one! Their all fighting a battle.

  3. First of all, you need a new dentist.  Any dentist that puts amalgam fillings in a person's mouth in today's world of understanding is NOT a good dentist.  ALL amalgam fillings have infections raging under them.  These infections cause many problems, but in addition to those problems, the amalgam fillings have over 50% liquid mercury in them.  This mercury leaches out and you swallow it and the liver converts this mercury vapor to mercuric ions that are sent to your brain where the Tubulon Matrix that is designed to surround your Neurodendrites is destroyed.  This leaves the Alzheimer's marker, "Neurodendrite tangles."  To view a peer reviewed study with a 5 minute video that was done by the University of Calgary School of Medicine, go to:

In addition to the amalgam disaster, I suspect your dentist used the typical Gutta Percha to fill the canals in your root and used the typical liquid sanitizer to make a febble attempt at sanitizing that only kills about 30% of the germs.  Many diseases modern man is plagued with today are a result of this bad dentistry practices being used on millions of Americans.  Dentists hate when this information is exposed and lash back with ill informed statements to defend their positions on this issue, but the facts are very clear and are coming from very well respected people that do care about your well being.

A very good example of this is the stance the ADA has on amalgam fillings where for decades declared that the amalgam fillings had specially formulated structure that did not allow the mercury to leach out and that people did not need to be concerned about that issue.  This was proved conclusively wrong by Vimy and Lorscheider in 1985 when they demonstrated that the air inside the mouth with amalgams continually contained elemental mercury vapor, and the dynamic of chewing increased this vapor level substantially.

The California State Board of Dental Examiners, by unanimous vote, approved a two-page document entitled "Dental Materials Fact Sheet." The purported intent of this document is to encourage discussion between patient and dentist in the selection of dental materials best suited to the patient's dental health, and it will be made available to all licensed dentists in California. The Board agreed that elemental mercury is a toxic substance, and it acknowledged that research has shown that free mercury can escape from amalgam filling and be absorbed by the body. The document even states:  Some elements contain in composites have been determined to be cytotoxic and carcinogenic.

I know you don't want to hear this, but if I were you, I would have a good biological dentist look at your tooth and evaluate how to re-do the root canal.  Under ALL root canals are cavitations or as it is called in dentistry, "NICO" (neuralgia-induced cavitations osteonecrosis).  This is a progressive deterioration of the jaw bone and has NO pain associated with it, so dentists generally totally ignore this issue.  This is how many diseases are generated in the body.  These infections deplete the body of it's minerals and worldwide research is showing us that these infections cause cancers, tumors, and many other degenerative diseases.

    good luck to you
