  1. Since you're not married and not 26 you are going to have to get your parents to sign a for to emancipate you as far as school goes. I know it sounds weird, but I had to do it myself. Apparently before you turn 26 if you're unmarried you have to file a FASFA with your parents taxes. And that's not fair when you're the one paying for school. I, for example, didn't qualify because my parents made too much. But i talked to a professor and she told me about the emancipation thing. I just went to the financial aid office and asked them about it, and got my parents to sign. Then I qualified for $30,000 a year in grants. Hope that helps! :)

P.S. Your situation may be different because of your son, but they can tell you for sure in the financial aid office. Also, you might be able to claim common law marriage depending on your state.

  2. NO, you are not married, he does not count toward your FASFA!!!! Make sure you claim your son as a dependant, that will give you more money. Good luck and congrats on going back to school!!!!

  3. I don't know much about FAFSA but I can tell you that there are people in the school that can help you fill it out.  They are getting the money, so they want to make sure you get the maximum amount of money for you to spend at school.

Look for financial aid advisors at your current or potential institution.

  4. You do not use his tax information.  You cannot put his information in place of spouse.  However, if you put 0  income for yourself, your school will most likely flag your FAFSA and want to know how you were able to support yourself with zero income.

On worksheet B of the FAFSA, the last question ask about money given to you for bills, ect.  You will make a good estimate of how much your boyfriend pays on your behalf for the bills, groceries, personal items ect and list this amount on worksheet B.
