Question:

Filling out W-4 for part-time University job?

I have to fill out a W-4 for a part-time summer job, but I have no idea what anything means. I know I am definitely not going to make more than $3,000, so I don’t think I will have to file any final taxes at the end...or am I wrong?

I don’t want my employer to deduct anything from my paychecks, so should I put “1” under “Total number of allowances you are claiming”?

  1. If that will be your only income for 2008, and you had no tax liability last year, put "exempt" on your W-4.

  2. you should be able to claim exempt if you're not going to make more than $3500.
