  1. When the cavity has reached the nerve its time for a root canal.I waited along time to correct a problem with a tooth and needed an emergency root canal.

  2. a root canal is for a dead tooth. a filling is for a cavity. check with your dentist. root canals are basic these days. people get them all the time and they are as common as a filling. i wouldnt worry about it. they basically drill a hole in your tooth and take the nerves out of the inside of your tooth because your nerves are just sitting in there rotting away. seek advice from a dentist first so they can tell you exactly how sever your tooth problem is. good luck, and dont worry.

  3. A filling is used if the infection hasn't gotten to the center part (pulp) of your tooth. A root canal is for if it has. It is best for your dentist to help you decide. He can tell which one you need.

  4. It doesn't always hurt when you need a root canal. Did she show you the xray, and explain anything to you? When the filling gets too close to the nerve it makes a root canal necessary, and you don't always have pain. Be happy that you don't!!

As far as $$, you could sign up for a discount dental program. They save you money on your treatment. They are inexpensive and I could check if your Dr. participates, but you'd have to email me and let me know the zip and Dr.'s name.
