Question:

Filling without being numbed??

About three weeks ago, my tooth chipped. It was in between my two middle teeth and the inside (back of tooth), the bottom set of teeth. Basically where your front of your tongue rests. I had to have one of them teeth filled and a white coloured filling was put in. Now I need to have the other tooth filled. I don't like needles or the feeling of being numb. How bad would it be without the anesthetic? It is a small patch of slightly brown. Thank you.

  1. hey you can do it without the needle it wont be bad unless you already have pain, or the problem is really big...

for years i have had my teeth done with nothing to help... and its great...now don't get me wrong I am still scared, nervous and tense...

so I suggest go without and you can change your mind later if you feel its necessary...

  2. To be sure, ask your dentist and tell him you don't like getting the needles.  I don't like them either and, to tell you the truth, I never get them for fillings.  If the dentist feels it will be painful without something to numb the area, ask him about giving you nitrous oxide, also known as sweet air.  That's what my husband gets.  They put this thing over your nose and you breath in the nitrous oxide (from what I've been told) and it kind of puts you in la la land.  You're awake the whole time and know what's going on but it's kind of like you're in a dream state and you feel no pain.  The effects of it disappear very soon after they stop administering it to you so it's not like you'll feel like that for hours after that.
