  1. I have had the best success using a simple sponge filter with a powerhead- they work in shallow water and are easy to clean.

  2. I run a FLUVAL 205, they are easy to use, easy to clean and no need to replace anything for months if you clean it properly. email me when you get one ill walk you though the cleaning and operating

  3. Fluvals are good.  Look in the reptile section in the pet store...they make filters just for shallow turtle tanks.  Most make too much water movement for small tanks.  A musk will get 3-5 inches long so following the rule of 10 gallons per inch, you'll need a 30-40 gallon.  Water depth 3-6 inches depending on size.  Also, they need water heaters and in a 10 gallon you'll over heat.  Don't forget a heat lamp (also impossible to get a temp gradient in less than 20 gal) and a UVB!

  4. Aim big- at least 2-3 times bigger than the tank you are using. Try this article for ideas:

  5. I use the whisper 40 in-tank filter. It is cheap, effetive and has yet to be clogged. I do change my filter pads every 2 to 3 weeks. Turtles are so dirty and mine has clogged 3 smaller filters. Sooo the more powerful the better.
