  1. It's hard to know since I don't know how long the tank has been running with fish in it. If you had something that is actively removing the ammonia before it has a chance to get your cycle going there isn't much beneficial bacteria that will be on the fluval. If the ammonia absorber has been in there awhile then more then likely it's been used up and then the fluval should have good bacteria on it.

Personally I'd go ahead and remove the ammonia absorber first. Test your water for ammonia in a day or two and see if the level is going up. If it isn't then you know you have good bacteria growing in your fluval.

At that point you can either allow both fluval and penguin to run together for a few weeks to get a colony established in the penguin or if you want you can pull the media from the fluval and tuck it in the penguin or let it float around in the tank for a few weeks. Also remember that there is also good bacteria growing in your substrate and on decor as well.

  2. I'm not really familliar with the fluval line of products but you just find a way to add the established bacteria packed filter media to the new equipment. I've cut it into small pieces and dropped it in the actual canister... the media is the largest colony of bacteria in your setup....

  3. yes you can remove the ammonia bagy

the fluval shouldn't be taken out until your tank is cycled completely

that way it can establish on the other filters without any problems
