  1. First thing, pinpoint the cause and eradicate that.  Fin rot doesn't just happen.  Usually, it is caused by dirty water (not enough water changes).  If you are changing your water less than once a week, you are not changing it enough.

You want to do water changes every 2-3 days while you are treating this.  Also, add a teaspoon of aquarium salt for every 2 1/2 gallons.

Maracyn I and II are good treatments for fin rot.  The ultimate treatment for it is tetracycline, for severe cases.  You can find all 3 at your pet store.  (I don't recommend using the Tetracycline at the same time you are using the Maracyn, though).  Try those medications, and it should clear up.

  2. keep doing that or return it to the petshop as soon as u can

  3. What size is his tank? How often are you changing his water? What temperature is his water?

Try adding 1/2 tsp of aquarium salt per gallon, extra clean water, and if all else fails use an antibiotic like Maracyn or Maracyn 2 to treat it.

  4. FIN OR TAIL ROT...

Fins that are badly torn or frayed for reasons other than fighting usually indicate fin or tail rot. Fin or tail rot is a bacterial disease that usually attacks weak or minimally damaged fin edges. Once established, the bacterium consumes the fin as it works towards the fish's body. This causes the fins to appear torn or frayed or in severe cases nearly stubs. Frayed fins can also be a sign of water problems, in which case the pH, ammonia, or nitrites are too high. Check your water conditions before treating. The best prevention is to maintain accurate water conditions. Sometimes the salt level will be too high. This can cause fin rot.

    SYMPTOMS...

The fish's tail or fins are ragged, frayed or appear to be shrinkinig or decaying.

    TREATMENT...

It is best treated with an antibiotic. There will be one best suitable at your local pet store. Make sure it states that it treats fin and tail rot. In some cases, a secondary infection will appear. If this is the case then treat the fin rot then proceed to the fungus problem.

  5. have had this however I used esha 2000 for three days, you can repeat this treatment if you have to, but you need to know the amount of litres or gallons in your tank first, do a water change first and take caron filter out of filter to treat the fish.

    Get Melafix.

My Betta had fin rot and one use of this cured him right away. I trust this over the rest.

Frequent water changes keep Bettas healthier! :)
