If I have already been approved for FAFSA and I change my mind about going to school do I have to accept the money awarded? I did not sign off on anything other than filling out the FAFSA online?

  1. i don't think you should.  because if you do bad in school you have to pay it back and i think even more so if your not going to be school might be fraud.

  2. The money is not for you to spend as please.  It is in a holding file for you to use when you apply  and are accepted to a college.  You will need to contact  the FAFSA office and let them know which college you do want to go to.  I believe ( but dont' quote me) that you have until December 15th to notify them so that they can send the notice to the college you select.

Otherwise, you may have to reapply when you decide.  Sorry, money is for approved educational use only.

  3. If you don't go to school, there won't be a school to give you the money. So no, you don't have to take the money. You wouldn't be allowed to anyway.

  4. in my experience, within the next few weeks you will receive an award letter either via a website or by mail.  you have to physically accept or deny each award.  so if you've changed your mind, just deny whichever awards you are being offered and you will be fine.
